A Little about Me

After a tour in the navy I became an editorial assistant at Harvard Business School. Then, reconsidering, I moved to Maine and became a commercial lobster fisherman, a truck driver, a regional columnist for The Maine Sportsman, and a reporter, book reviewer, and feature writer for Maine Coastal News. For six years I was an acquiring editor for McGraw-Hill’s International Marine and Ragged Mountain Press imprints, then became Editor-at-Large for the Lyons Press, an outdoors- and nautical-books advisor for W.W. Norton, and for 18 years was the editor and angling columnist for Gray’s Sporting Journal. Along the way I published four collections of fly-fishing essays: Crosscurrents, River Music, and Fly-Fishin’ Fool, from the Lyons Press, and most recently Fish Won’t Let Me Sleep, from Skyhorse.
